It might seem like all its paths have already been travelled, but <strong>here are a few routes among our favourite.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Gourmet journeys through the Basque country<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In this land of milk and honey with secular fishing and breeding traditions, <strong>the culinary arts are not taken lightly<\/strong>. Festive gatherings celebrating the Cherry (in Itxassou), Pepper (in Espelette) or Basque cake (in Cambo) are regarded as popular and social events (the most dignified local personalities are gathered in brotherhoods!). Basque sweets of course include the renowned cake \u2013 which you can taste at <strong>Pari\u00e8s<\/strong>&#8216; in Bayonne \u2013 but also<strong> Maison<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Adam<\/strong>&#8216;s delicious traditional almond macarons, free of any unnatural food colouring. <strong>Chocolate aficionados<\/strong> will not feel left out: the region has been cultivating a chocolate tradition ever since the blossoming of the Bayonne harbour in the seventeenth century. Several famed factories, among which <strong>Puyodebat<\/strong> in Cambo and <strong>Antton<\/strong> in Espelette, offer tours of their facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Markets and producers of interest:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The (wonderful) Biarritz Halles<\/strong>: every morning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Bayonne Halles<\/strong>: everyday from Monday to Saturday<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pierre Oteiza in the Aldudes<\/strong>: Basque pork delicatessen, among which the famed dried sausages served in the Ferme aux Grives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maison Bipertegia in Espelette<\/strong>: pepper, spices and condiment. Open every day during the high season.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">An important part of the basque heritage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The part of the basque country set in the foothills of the Pyrenees has lots of <strong>charming villages<\/strong>, and you can visit all of them in a row since there is only a few kilometers between each of them. This is one of the sites that you simply have to visit when touring the region \u2013 and you will appreciate it even more if you let the domain&#8217;s guide enlighten you with their witty comments and insightful anecdotes. It ends at Pointe Sainte-Barbe, a rocky spur overlooking the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz that rewards the huddled hiker with an exceptional viewpoint.
