The Landes coast & surfing

Lac de Léon and the Natural Reserve of the Courant d’Huchet

A 75 minutes drive away from Eugénie, on the other side of the forest, lays the small province of Marensin. The high forests of tall pines, dunes and underbrushes of wild heather make the place a real natural paradise for lovers of hiking, biking, and all activities that will let you be at one with Nature. We thoroughly enjoy the lovely Lac de Léon. On its waters, you can discover the thrill of Stand Up Paddle ; on its banks, you may indulge in a few hours of peace in the company of your soulmate or with friends. Its small beach and clear waters make it an ideal place to bring young children. The lake is located upstream of the Natural Reserve of the Courant d’Huchet. This park, created in 1981 halfway between the Lake and the Ocean was trusted to the care of the Courant’s boatmen. These folks, great ecologists at soul and expert storytellers, offer you green tours every day of the year, to guide you in your discovery of this geological and botanical oddity that is the Courant. For a few hours, lulled by the chirping of the birds and the sounds of the forest, you will sail down the stream ; if you get lucky, you might even catch a glance of local animals : does, minks and jays thrive in the area.

Surfing and golfing in Moliets

The Landes region is the ideal place to become acquainted with the delights of surfing no matter how old you might be or to ride the waves with delight if you are already an expert. The desert beaches of the legendary Côte d’Argent welcome you year round, even though the summer and autumn are the most popular seasons. Our personal favorite is the Lette Blanche beach, where you can enjoy private or group lessons provided by the trainers of the Silver’Landes school.
If you are more comfortable on the sand surrounding a bunker than on a sandbank at sea, the wonderful Golf de Moliets welcomes you on its 27-hole golf course shaded by the pines and facing the ocean ; it is one of the most beautiful courses in a region that has more than a dozen of them.

A « cool » day in Hossegor

The capital of surfing and charming young people with tanned skin as well as the ultimate house of cool, Hossegor is an « easy chic » seaside resort if there ever was one. Surfing and surf sports in general truly are a form of religion here, and so are napping under the pines’ shade
and smoothly walking down Avenue Paul Lahary come cocktail hours.
After a Paddle or Yoga session on the Lake, why not go and salute the handsome bartenders at Mango Tree to order a gourmet and healthy lunch ? If you are more the « terroirista » type, you will enjoy the Hossegor open market that draws scores of epicureans and tourists every Sunday morning. After the market, lunch at Jean des Sables in front of the ocean will be the ideal finale to this chic outing in the Landes.
